Before dispatch and/or finishing the material must be dressed and, in many cases, inspected for flaws. To this end there are separate conditioning and inspection lines incorporating an abrasive cut-off machine to crop rods and cut them to finished lengths. Moreover, defective parts can be cut out. Inspection for flaws is performed at the feeder roller table, either visually (surface flaws) or by means of an ultrasonic probe (to be able to identify flaws inside the material). The abrasive cut-off machine is mostly operated in a semi-automatic mode from the control desk. After cutting the material is either accommodated in troughs or in special pilers.
