During and and the end of the rolling process the elongated rolled products (long or flat) must be cropped or cut to certain lengths. Depending on the required arrangement of the abrasive cut-off machine (within the pass line or in the delivery area of the rolling mill) the material is cut hot or warm. The abrasive cut-off machine is usually operated fully automatic, interconnected with the rolling mill control system. In most cases high throughput rates are demanded. Cutting times as short as possible shall be achieved. Therefore, the abrasive cut-off machines are frequently designed as travel-type cutting machines (for cutting of material layers and/or of slabs, plates and sheets).
